The Supreme Court addressed whether appellate docket fees were properly paid when postal money orders were delivered to the correct trial court but addressed to different courts' clerks. Spouses Buenaflor lost their property recovery case and attempted to appeal, but the RTC dismissed their appeal for allegedly failing to pay docket fees properly under Section 4, Rule 41. The Court of Appeals upheld this dismissal. However, the Supreme Court granted certiorari, applying liberal construction of procedural rules under Section 6, Rule 1. The Court found that actual delivery of money orders to the proper clerk constituted substantial performance despite the technical addressing error.
