Evarista Robles v. Lizarraga Hermanos (Consolidated Cases)

Summary

This 1921 Supreme Court case involved three consolidated disputes over property improvements and possession rights. Evarista Robles made P4,500 worth of improvements to a house believing she would purchase it from Lizarraga Hermanos under a verbal agreement. When the partnership refused to sell and sought ejectment, Robles claimed right of retention until reimbursed. The Supreme Court applied Civil Code Articles 453 and 434, finding Robles possessed in good faith when making useful improvements, thus entitled to reimbursement with right of retention.
