Summary

This inheritance dispute involved whether Vicenta Sumaoi, surviving spouse of Raymundo Baobaoen, could validly inherit and sell his land to defendant Tilan. The Supreme Court reversed the lower court, ruling that Vicenta had no inheritance rights to the land because Raymundo had a forced heir (daughter Ursula). Under Civil Code Articles 807 and 930-952, surviving spouses only inherit the entire estate when there are no forced heirs. Vicenta was only entitled to usufruct rights under Article 834.
