The provision
Ownership and other real rights over immovable property are acquired by ordinary prescription through possession of ten years. (1957a)

Ten years of possession acquires ownership and other real rights over immovable property by ordinary prescription. "Ordinary" is the operative word: Article 1117 requires the possession to be in good faith and with just title, and Article 1118 requires it to be in the concept of owner, public, peaceful and uninterrupted. Without good faith and just title the period is thirty years under Article 1137. For movables the periods are four years in good faith and eight years without need of any other condition (Article 1132).
