The provision

The obligation of the guarantor is extinguished at the same time as that of the debtor, and for the same causes as all other obligations. (1847)

Intellegal Wiki · In plain terms

A guarantor's obligation ends at the same time the debtor's own obligation ends, and for the same causes that extinguish obligations generally. Because the guaranty is tied to the main debt, whatever wipes out the principal obligation also releases the guarantor.
