The provision
Illegitimate children who may survive with legitimate parents or ascendants of the deceased shall be entitled to one-fourth of the hereditary estate to be taken from the portion at the free disposal of the testator. (841a)
Intellegal Wiki · In plain terms
When illegitimate children inherit alongside the deceased's legitimate parents or ascendants, the illegitimate children's guaranteed share (legitime) is one-fourth of the estate, taken from the portion the deceased was free to give away. This sets their protected share for that particular mix of heirs.
