Under Article 68 of the Family Code, the husband and wife are obliged to live together, observe mutual love, respect, and fidelity, and render mutual help and support — the core personal obligations of marriage. The spouses fix the family domicile jointly, and in case of disagreement the court decides (Article 69).
The management of the household is the right and duty of both spouses, and they are jointly responsible for the support of the family (Articles 70-71). These duties reflect the Family Code's principle of equality between the spouses, replacing the old rule that gave the husband the dominant role.
